The Sunset of Monserrate

Monserrate is a MUST do when you are in Bogotá.  The views, the views, the views!  Did I mention the views?

We asked our Anti-Cliche tour guide Orland what time we should go to get the best views.  He recommended at night.  So we decided to go in the late afternoon, have a late lunch there and watch the sunset.  Which turned out to be the perfect amount of time to experience all of the views of Bogotá that Monserrate had to offer.

The Real New Years, Canada Day

I always find that January 1st lacks the real sense of renewal  that a new year requires. It might be the Canadian winter or the fact that Christmas can be an exhausting time, but January never feels like the start of it all.  A few years ago I started to feel as if my new year started on July 1st.  Canada Day marked a time of things coming to a close, change and new adventures.  The fact that it was the start of summer didn’t hurt either.

Sunsets of 2014

Starting 2014 in Brasil I was captivated by the magical sunsets.

Every evening the city would quite down as the birds were cheerping, people were out for walks or running, and families sat outside drinking Chimarrão. I remember my mother-in-law was always excited to share her photos with me, we would go through them agree on a favourite, and we would repeat it all over again the next night. Seeing as I still have a lot of Portuguese to learn, I felt we were bonding over our love of photography and the awe-inspiring beauty of mother nature.

With every kilometre we drove through Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, I saw the most beautiful places I had ever seen. I was in love. With the ocean and mountains along the horizon, it is was easy to enjoy the sunsets. I tried to slow down and take in the moment by thinking about my blessed life, my loved ones near and far, and honestly just how beautiful the world is when you have a chance to explore it. My husband and I fondly refer to it now as the nothing but blue skies road trip.

It’s been a bumpy transition as expected, but life in Toronto has been filled with new beginnings, backyard barbecues, finally getting the courage to bike in this city, Germany winning the World Cup, and a few beers at Bellwoods.

As the sun fades away on this last day of 2014, cheers to the days that have passed, the memories made and many more sunsets to capture in 2015!

Sunset Hues

To cure our case of the Monday Blues we took advantage of the mild temperatures and clear skies with a sunset walk.

It’s hard to adjust to the shorter days of November especially when active weather means grey skies, rain, and reports of a cool down expected later this week. We will always prefer the long and hot days of summer, but living in Canada all we can do is bundle up and make the best of it!
