Starting off Thailand at Koh Samet

Screen Shot 2017-03-09 at 10.23.24 AMAfter 24 hours of travel & landing in Bangkok at 1 am, my first impressions of Thailand were something like,  “Oh my god … I am really here.”   “This is amazing .. it is so warm & there are people out!”  “My god I can’t read any of the signs .. I am going to get lost.”

I woke up early on my first day & started my trip to Koh Samet, a beautiful Island Beach 3 hours drive south of Bangkok.

Koh Samet wasn’t on my original list of places to see in Thailand.  I went because I was meeting my aunt from Poland there, but I am very glad I started my trip there. It’s a small island, with a beautiful beach & a friendly, laid back vibe.  The perfect place to decompress & relax.

The Last Starfighter Remake?!

For a second there I TOTALLY thought they were going to re-make the 1984 sci-fi classic The Last Starfighter.

Luckily that is not the case. Or not? I can’t really decided after watching this fan produced “Modern Trailer.”  Although Hollywood would probably screw it up like they did with Total Recall or Tron.  I think this one is best left in the 80s.

I started to love science fiction as a child and The Last Starfighter was one of my favourite 80s science fiction movies.  I don’t remember exactly when I first saw it.  Probably in the late 80s, but once I did I was hooked.  As a kid I actually wanted to go to space, instead have an alien come live in my closet, so the movie represented my space fantasy – alien race asks Kinga to save the world!

#FuckCanada: Olympics, Rivalry & Social Media

fuck canadaThe Winter Olympics always draws out the age-old American & Canadian Hockey rivalry.  America’s who are the best at everything & feel no shame in proudly announcing this are confronted with a nation of  not-as-polite-as-usual Canadians, who consider Hockey domination as a cornerstone of national pride.  This rivalry came to a hilarious light on Twitter this week as American Hockey fans did the only thing they could after Thursday’s Women’s Hockey Gold Metal game, they tweeted “Fuck Canada.”

The Beauty of Winter

The cold spell we’ve had in Toronto made for a perfect in-door lazy Sunday.  I visited my Mom and came home just in time to capture the beauty of the snow fall.

The the snow looked like falling stars and the streets we’re silent and peaceful.

My reaction to Rob Ford running for Mayor again

This morning our infamous Mayor, Rob Ford announced that he is running for re-election.  The fact the he lied, bullies his detractors, smoked cracked (but in a drunken stupor), associated with people involved in criminal activities (again while in a drunken stupor),  and publicly humiliated his wife (while not in a drunken stupor)  in his mind still makes him the “best mayor this city have ever had.”   The man is clearly self-deluded, egotistical and capable of anything.

I am scared.

But, at least we have 10 months of continued entertainment as Rob Ford will go into full on campaign mode.  He does have a lot of time of hands since he’s been stripped of his power.

Oh and he lied already.
