No one’s impressed by Twitter’s new “Faster than an Earthquake” ad. Not Gawker, not MSNBC not Copyranter, and not Adweek. The main critique is that the ad is boring, self-absorbed and that it undermines Twitters relevance.
My beef with ad is that it makes all Twitter users look like giant self-pretentious douchebags. Douchebags who can’t be bothered with the realities of life (like an earthquake) as they are too busy doing “other” more important things. And as I’ve said before, not everyone on Twitter is a douchebag.
To be fair, I don’t think the portrayal was a conscious decision on their part. I think they were looking to portray us as the unflappable, in-the-know type person who is not concerned by the Earthquake because they know its coming. But, do you know what type of person would just sit there, reading his book even thought he knew an earthquake was coming? A douchebag.
Disclaimer: No douchebag’s were harmed in the making of this post.
